Apple Music Tops 10 Million Subscribers
Apple Music has surpassed the 10 million subscriber mark, a milestone it took competitor Spotify six months to reach.
Apple’s streaming music service launched last June with a free trial. In October, Chief Executive Tim Cook announced that it had converted 6.5 million people to paying subscribers, with a total of 15 million users.
The news, which was first reported by the Financial Times, comes after Apple extended the service to users of rival Android devices. The $10 monthly service launched in more than 100 countries, and many in the music industry hope that its growth will offset a declining digital download business.
Spotify still dwarfs Apple in subscribers, with 20 million people paying a monthly fee, and 75 million active users.
Apple declined comment.
